WORLD SPACE WEEK

The International celebration of Science and Technology, as declared by The United Nations General Assembly, conduct the World Space Week from Oct 4-10. The dates celebrate 2 international occasions i.e.

• 4th Oct 1957: Launch of 1st human made satellite, Sputnik 1, leading to Space Exploration.
• 10th Oct 1957: Signing the Treaty of principles that govern activities of state in Exploration & Peaceful uses of outer space, that includes Moon & other celestial bodies.

WORLD SPACE WEEK THEME FOR 2018: SPACE UNITES THE WORLD

The World Space Week Association (WSWA) announced theme for 2018, “Space Unites the World”, to celebrate the role of space in bringing the world closer together.

The Vikram Sarabhai Science Foundation (VSSF)- Kochi, has been in the forefront of World Space Week celebrations in Kerala and this year will be conducting various events & activities to commemorate the WORLD SPACE WEEK 2018, for schools & students across the country & age groups.

Students could participate in the foll. activities,

• Poster with Caption contest – Drawing & Painting competition depicting “Space Unites the World”
• Science Elocution (on foll. topics) & Essay writing
  • Solar System & Beyond
  • Astronomy & Space
  • Space Technology
  • Remembering our Greats - Indian Scientists
  • India’s Rockets & Satellites
  • Rings of Saturn
  All the above topics should be from the context of “Space Unites the World”
• Seminar: 2 hours with a space Scientist: Talk shows at select schools in Kerala on Astronomy & Space- Celebrating 60 years since Sputnik
• Water Rocket launch at schools: VSSF would provide specifics to the School Science Club to conduct this inspiring science activity. (VSSO page > Download > Water Rocket launch)

1. Top 3 students form each activity will be rewarded with the foll,

• Excellence certificates.
• Reference brochures / videos of ISRO activities for exclusive view on www.vssf.in , from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.
